What a surprise to find that my poem is published today on Gobblers by Masticadores! I offer my deepest gratitude to Manuela Timofte for sharing my writing. It’s always an honor to be featured among many talented writers, so I hope you’ll visit her beautiful site.
The Old Pink Restaurant
I feel old and withered
like a dying rock rose.
Cracks propagate
down my stucco exterior
like fault lines in the earth.
Does an outburst lie on the horizon?
I remember when vibrant pink,
like a fuchsia feather boa,
would invite strangers in β
strangers who became friends.
My mood has a mind of its own.
When the sky opens,
tears stream down my windows,
tattooing me with streaks of dirt.
I’ve been abandoned for years β
no one seems to want me...

Congratulations, Lauren! I’ve always found crumbling old restaurants, snack bars, and diners very sad.
Thanks, Liz, and I feel the same. They’re like part of the family with the memories they hold within their walls. We pass this restaurant all the time, but the last time, I was inspired to write this personification poem. π§‘
What a great title.
Thanks, Jacqui. It was a special restaurant from two decades ago. β€οΈ

Thanks for your kind words, Thomas. I appreciate them!
A restaurant chain, Shari’s Cafe & Pie chain restaurants closed all the locations in Oregon in 2024. It was sad because my daughter had worked there for a summer job. I love their razzleberry pie.
Congratulations on your publication, Lauren! π
That is sad, Miriam, the pie sounds delicious. π Thanks so much, my friend! xo
