A Tanka Christmas

1.

This jingle jolly
season delights young hearts as
they bake cookies for
the white-bearded man in red
joy through the eyes of children

2.

Christmas carols play
on the old record player
while snowflakes fall in
slow motion and candles sway
to the festive melodies

3.

Hustle and bustle
begins after Thanksgiving
for shopping galore
but commercialism slays
the magic, so stay focused

4.

I grew up learning
about a baby boy born
on this Christmas day
who would become a teacher
of unconditional love

5.

β€˜Tis the season to
be with family and friends
bringing joy to hearts
for their company is the
best gift of all to receive

6.

Lights twinkle on homes
when evening accommodates
all aglow in their
shimmering reds, greens, and golds
uplifting somber spirits

7.

flour on faces
enjoyment in the blending
snowmen, bells, Christmas
trees frosted and sprinkled with
love sweetens gift of giving

  1. These are wonderful poems for the season and no matter if you veer off here and there, it’s a poet’s/writer’s prerogative in my opinion

  2. My favorite is four, but they are all good! Your photo of Christmas tree shopping reminded me of going to a tree lot near our house in Palm Springs. I was pushing the stroller with our daughter in it. My son was on my husband shoulders. We had our dog on a leash and out from under a Christmas tree popped our cat! He had followed us to shop for a tree.

  3. These are wonderful Tankas, Lauren.

I know nothing about their structure, I just know I like what you have written.

Are the kids coming for Christmas?

Ours is a 5 people happening. My Toronto family is teeny, but we have a great time!

    1. Thanks, Resa! I’m glad you liked these, and yes, we’ll definitely see the kids and we can’t wait! 5 people sounds good to me, and it’ll be the same for us. Our son, daughter and her husband, and us. Small but nice! I hope you have a wonderful Christmas! I may do one or two more posts, and then it’ll be holiday break time. Hugs β€οΈπŸŽ„

      1. Yay!
        I know, it’s holiday time.
I have 1 more post on Glam, and on the 27th, a special one on Art Gowns.
The new Art Gown is finished, and it’s made from antique linens and laces Diana sent me. They had belonged to her great grandmother and her grandmother.

I’ll use it also as an opportunity to remind that her book release is on Jan. 2.. 2025..
        OMG..2025!!!!!
        Hugs πŸ•ŠπŸ€πŸŽ„

      2. I’m so happy to hear that the Art Gown is finished and can’t wait to see it! It’s special that Diana gave you the linens and laces that were from her family. So special! I know it’s stunning! I just know! πŸ™‚ Good idea about her book release too! I’m going to try to post more book reviews tomorrow and then probably one final Christmas post on Saturday before signing off until January. So hard to believe that 2025 is close! Hugs again! xoxoxoxo

  4. Thank you for spreading some cute and cozy Christmas cheer, dear Lauren.πŸŽ„I had a chance to look through your beautiful book today. I am excited to give them to my great nieces, with some holiday reading, of course. Merry Christmas! πŸ’•

    1. Thanks so much, Michele! I’m glad you enjoyed this Christmassy post, and thank you again for buying my book for your great nieces! I hope you love it and I hope they love ‘reading’ about Cora. Wishing you a wonderful Christmas! πŸŽ„πŸ’βοΈ
