Three Nights in a Van – Part 2

Dear Friends and Family,

On of our hikes, we discovered a pond, and a fun poem came to mind for Part 2 in my camper van adventure series. If you missed Part 1, you can read it here. Enjoy!

Mr. Frog

I wonder if a frog
lives in that pond
or a family of three
or even beyond.

A green meadow surrounds
with evenings of hoots –
an enchanting location
to plant their roots.

With each step of silence
I’m quiet as can be.
Mr. Frog, please show
your wide eyes to me.

When I was five
I found a frog
as big as a football
but not huge like a hog.

I named him Sam,
a fine name for him,
but it was a tossup
between Sam and Tim.

Now you know the reason
I simply love frogs
as much as my heart
loves all breeds of dogs.

And this is why I wish
Mr. Frog would pop up soon
to bid me the finest day,
and tonight, the brightest moon!

Meet the frog that I named Sam made by
my mom when I was a little girl. He is comprised
of love, corduroy, and beans.

  1. From big Chug-a-Rums to musical multitudes of small frogs singing in unison, they are all treats. And then total silence as something comes by that worries them. Thanks for you froggy poem, Lauren.

    1. Great description, Curt, and I’m glad you enjoyed this froggy poem. When I saw the pond, the fun idea flowed instantly. 🐸💚 I also wrote some limericks and a couple of other poems (drafts) that I’m working on. Happy traveling!

      1. Well, the inspiration hasn’t always flowed so generously as with this last trip. It’s strange, but I’m running with it! 🙂 I just posted Part 4, but Part 5 (the last part) just may offer some limerick fun. How could you have possibly known? 😁 I was just working on them last night!

  2. I enjoyed your tribute to Sam. When I was a child, we made a polliwog pond and captured polliwogs from a local lake. It was fascinating to watch them morph into frogs. I wrote a children’s story about it. It was my first fiction story published in Ladybug Magazine.

    1. I’m glad you enjoyed Sam’s tribute, Elizabeth, and how wonderful about the pond and your published children’s book. Congratulations! A friend actually suggested putting this fun poem into a book. What do you think? 🥰

    1. Thanks, Robbie! I’m glad you enjoyed this! It was fun to write. 🙂 And some things are just too special to let go of. My mom also made me a lime green dog with floppy ears, but I can’t seem to find it. It could be in the boxes of ‘children’ clothes, etc, that I want to keep. 🐸🐶❤️

    1. Thanks for your wonderful comment, Eugi. Sometimes ‘fun’ is the way to go. So I’m glad you enjoyed this poem and handmade Sam. She made a dog for me too, lime green with floppy ears, but he has gone missing. 🩷🌷

  3. Love your poem, Lauren.

OMG, I can’t believe you still have Sam. That is special.

Ribbit, and have a wonderful day every day!

    1. Thanks again, Resa! I’m glad you loved this tribute to Sam! He’s special as you can see. 🙂 My mom also made me a lime green dog with floppy ears, but he has gone MIA. I think he may be in a box of my children’s stuff and clothes that I can’t let go of. Have a wonderful day and weekend, my friend! 🐸💚🐸🤗

    1. How cool, Dawn! My mom also made me a lime green dog with floppy ears, but I can’t find him. I think he might be in a box marked “children’s clothes or toys” that I’m hanging on to of Steph and Michael’s. I hope he is. 🙂 I’m glad you liked the poem, too. 🤗

    1. Haha, thanks, Cheryl! When I saw that pond, I could just imagine the many wide-eyed frog families! Then I remembered Sam that my mom made. 🙂 And the moon! I never get tired of the sun or moon with all their alchemy. Much love! 💕

    1. Oh, wow, Liz, this brightens my fourth day in isolation! Thank you so much for your encouragement. I’m still working on my first children’s book where there’s been a few glitches. But I’m getting closer to the finish line. Anyway, thanks again, and I will keep you in mind for this book idea.
