Blues and Greens and Poetry!

Last Friday, I took myself for a leisurely drive on the country roads to one of our favorite, charming towns, Pt. Reyes Station – about a 45-minute drive. At this time of year, the hills are velvety green, the sky a vivid bright blue, and the clouds looked soft and cottony – a gorgeous day! Upon arrival early enough for ample parking, I found a spot close to Toby’s Coffee Cart that called out to me when I got out of my car! I had to get a chai tea latte, and then I sat at a cute orange table and enjoyed the sweet and spicy drink. While I watched people pass by, listening to the sounds – chatter, laughter, dogs barking, and birds singing – a poem was brewing. Are you surprised? 🙂

Shopping was inevitable – I found a white beaded bracelet signifying tranquility and a new book. I don’t need more books! But I can’t walk by a book store and not peruse its treasures, let alone, find a treasure that I have to read! Why We Swim by Bonnie Tsui caught my eye because I’ve always loved swimming, and growing up, we had a pool in our backyard. Diving to touch the drain, pretending to be a mermaid, swimming laps, and playing Marco Polo with family and friends are some of the great memories!

At the end of my Pt. Reyes visit, taking photos was on the agenda. How could it not be? I hope you enjoy the beautiful scenery and the fun poem!

Blues and Greens just for Me

A day for me and me alone
With my thoughts we will roam
Lovely country roads we’ll drive
Lined with yellow blooms to thrive
Rolling hills in emerald bright
Velvet touch, a stunning sight
Shops to wander, trinkets entice
Sipping chai, a relaxing sigh
Flora and fauna all around
Camera in hand, photos abound
Memories made for me alone
A day for me to freely roam

Just like sunrises and sunsets, there is no such thing as ‘too many sky photos!’
Old barns captivate me!
An inviting Zen garden.
I’ve never mastered selfies!

  1. What a wonderful day to have to yourself. Great photos and a beautiful poem. As a mom of two swimmers and eventually swimming myself, I’m interested in reading “Why We Swim.”

    1. Thanks for your wonderful comment, Elizabeth. I can’t wait to read the book, but there are several books ahead that I’ll read first. So it’ll be a while, but the cover and title grabbed my attention. If I remember, I’ll let you know how it is, unless you read it first. 😀

  2. I used to live by Tomales Bay many years ago, I loved it! You are right about the green rolling hills and endless blue skies. Marin County is one of my favorite places.

    1. Glad you can relate to the swimming, Mary! I won’t start the book for a while because I have several lined up in front of it. 😄 Someone else is intrigued by this book, so maybe I’ll do a review or share about it when I’m done. 🥰

  3. True. There can never be too many photos like these. So happy you shared your day with me. And a gorgeous poem: Just like you! A delight to read.
All the best. Happy new month of May 🤗

    1. Aww, thanks for your wonderful words, Selma! I’m glad you enjoyed the photos and poem. It was a lovely day perfect for a blog post. 😀 I’m doing well, and can’t believe how fast this year is flying by. Happy May to you! May it be full of light, love, and creativity! 🥰

  4. Looks like a wonderful day-adventure, Lauren. I’ve never been to that area. It’s beautiful (as are all of your photos). I loved your poem, too. Sounds like you had a memorable day! (And I agree about the bookstores 100%!) 😊

    1. Hi Mike, thanks for your kind comment, and I’m glad you enjoyed the scenery and the fun poem. We’ve lived here for 25 years now, and driving out west is one of our favorites things to do. I just love the rolling hills. And yes to more books! I love charming little towns. 🤗

  5. I love rural scenes. So restful if you are seeking peace and quiet if you are living in a city and need to unwind from the hustle and bustle and increasing dangers.

  6. I love the lightness in this, Lauren! You took a solo trip and made the very most of it. Fun.

I’ve read and heard of the considerable benefits many believe can be gained doing a solo activity instead of habitually surrounding ourselves with others (some of whom we may adore being with, or others who may not always really be “company” anyway). Your poem, narrative and photos all exude a lightness of heart that, as you’ve shared here, has been preceded by some hard times in recent months.

Self-care. Well done you. Maybe this will be another weekly feature… “Travels to a Coffee Stop.” 😉🤗😎

    1. Thanks for your wonderful, insightful comment, Steve. Going solo is healthy once in a while. I took the day off at the last minute, but hubby worked, and I could tell the weather would comply, so I wanted to get outside, go somewhere. It was a beautiful day, especially for a fun poem. 🙂 You’re right, self-care is vital. And you are so funny, signing me up for weekly posts! 😂 As you can already tell, I don’t post on schedule, only through inspiration, so we shall see. But I appreciate the nudges! I’m glad you enjoyed this lightness, my friend. 🤗☕️🚙

      1. You’re welcome, Lauren! Ah, no pressure, my friend, I’m just fooling around on the weekly idea. I totally get the time pressures of working and blogging… as a retired guy I can’t even keep up! 😅

  7. Wow Lauren, that sounds like a great day!

BTW, you take fab pics. I think you have a knack there.

Love the poem, love that you felt inspired and am enchanted by the area around Pt. Reyes Station.

    Thanks for the getaway, Lauren!

    1. It was a great day, Resa, and different because I usually have hubby with me or one or both of my kids or a friend, which I’m grateful for, but going solo is a good thing too. And thanks about taking pics. I really appreciate that. I just need to master selfies, but that probably won’t happen. LOL I’m glad you enjoyed! Hugs xoxoxo

      1. Lauren, I get what you mean about solo. I think it’s important to have self time.
I go on my walks looking for street art. I go alone. The phone is turned onto airplane mode. Only the camera works!

No one can get me. I love it!
        xoxoxo💓🌹

      2. I agree, self time is important, and I love how you embark on your adventures, searching for incredible and unique street art which you always find! I love elephants and there is a mural that I pass each day, and each time, I tell myself that I need to stop one day, park and take a pic for Resa! 🙂 One day I will! xoxoxox 🐘🐘🐘🐘

  8. I love Me time, Lauren! I also love to take photos of the sky and clouds. The rain finally stops sometimes and lets the blue sky show its face. I took quite a few photos. Your poem is lovely and well expresses the joy of making memories.

  9. Such a nice treat for you this special day Lauren!

And thanks for sharing with us, it’s like travelling with you and enjoying the place, that looks great and refreshing.

Love your sweet poem too. We never have enough of poetry : same for sky photos!

Take care and have a nice day!

  10. Such a lighthearted post, Lauren. You’re right…’there can never be enough sky pictures.’ The photo of the old barn is lovely and your poem reflects a feeling of lightness.

  11. To think, Lauren, that we were wandering around Pt. Reyes station on the same day, and visiting the Pt. Reyes Book Store. I bought a book on tide pools and a book on “How to Read a Rock” from the same table you bought your book, “How to Swim.” Love your photos and poem. We did ‘meet up,’ in a way.

  12. Dearest Lauren, you take me back to my cherished years living in the countryside, feeling so intimately at one with nature, the rolling hills and sprawling tallgrass fields where the cattle and horses roamed, the babbling brooks; it was collectively among the most serene and balancing of life experiences for me. Thank you for bringing back such wonderful memories of my childhood and teenage years as they were truly meant to be!
