In Honor of Earth Day…

and this sunny, Monday morning, I’m sharing a poem from my book, Ever So Gently. If you’ve already read it, I hope you don’t mind a repeat. 🙂 This poem was inspired from one of our lake trips in the Sierra Mountains…

The First Morning

Our eyes open to chirps
from high in the fir trees,
and we hear the rustle
of a skittering squirrel.
The evening before,
every creature
became silent
as darkness sank
into the evening.
But this morning,
with sunlight
caressing the lake,
we walk the few steps
to calm water,
nestle into our chairs
and slowly sip our coffee.
We listen.
Peace.
Cottony clouds drift by.
We want to move into
them, feel their softness
enfold us.
They shift with the grace
of a swan.
Ripples shimmer above sand.
Art in clear water.
And this is when we watch morning happen…

    1. Thanks for your lovely words, Balroop. I’m glad you liked this poem for another reading. I know you read my book, so I don’t know how many times you’ve read the poem, maybe more than twice, but I appreciate your kind words. 🙂 ❤️

  1. This is so gorgeous and evokes all the sensations of being in nature, Lauren. Reminds me of a time camping in a canyon near Estes Park, Colorado. A perfect pick for honouring Earth Day!

    1. Thanks so much for your wonderful comment, Steve! I’m glad this poem evokes that special memory for you. Our son was in in Colorado last year and loved Estes Park. It sounds like another gorgeous destination. Hope you’ve had a great day! 🌏🤗

Of course dear Lauren, we know every day is Earth Day.
