Spirit Lifting

A few days ago, a friend of mine surprised me with flowers and a card with such beautiful and thoughtful sentiments. I was truly touched, and the first thing that came to mind was gratitude…for so many things in my life. So, I’m sharing the flowers with you today and a poem from one of my favorite poets, Mary Oliver. Her words will give you something to think about…

The Summer Day

Who made the world?
Who made the swan, and the black bear?
Who made the grasshopper?
This grasshopper, I mean –
the one who has flung herself out of the grass,

the one who is eating sugar out of my hand,
who is moving her jaws back and forth instead of up
   and down –
who is gazing around with her enormous and
   complicated eyes.

Now she lifts her pale forearms and thoroughly
  washes her face.
Now she snaps her wings open, and floats away.
I don’t know exactly what a prayer is.
I do know how to pay attention, how to fall down
into the grass, how to kneel down in the grass,
how to be idle and blessed, how to stroll through
  the fields,

which is what I have been doing all day.
Tell me, what else should I have done?
Doesn’t everything die at last, and too soon?
Tell me, what is it you plan to do
with your one wild and precious life?

Thank you again for all the love, hugs, and prayers. Please know that your kindness means a lot to me. The pain has either been silent or less intense this week; it’s so unpredictable, but I’m starting treatment soon, so I pray it will make a big difference.

Happy Friday, and I wish you a wonderful weekend ahead! There is no way to go but forward!

Love and hugs, Lauren ❤️

  1. Love the poem you shared Lauren – so meaningful.

Lovely flowers 💚 – some friends are making our life special and can change bad times into positive steps on the road.

Glad to read you are feeling better and hope the treatment will help you.

Much love and positive vibes flowing your way. 🌼

  2. Lauren, what a thoughtful gift and the flowers are a colourful selection of happiness and light! So beautiful. It must be a relief to have a slightly better week and may it be so onwards – I’m thinking of you. ❤️ Thank you for sharing this wonderful poem, a true classic and the famous lines were the key to a recent film I saw on Netflix. As she reached 60 Nyad was struck by the last two lines of this poem and she became determined to realise her dream to swim from Cuba to Florida which she failed to do in her 20s.

    1. Thanks for your lovely words, Annika, and for keeping me in your thoughts. I’m praying the quietness continues over the weekend too. One day at a time always. And I’m not surprised that Mary’s poem provided inspiration in the film. I just adore her writing. Hugs ❤️

  3. First, it’s good to hear the pain has either been silent or less intense. Good luck with this next stage! And take care of yourself. And thank you for the beautiful shots and words. What loveliness about the flowers. A real spirit lifter. I like them too. Sending healing graces to settle in all those places that need divine intervention. Bless you Lauren.

    1. Thanks, Robbie. I have to focus on the miracle of pain-free moments, and remember to breathe while riding the waves of pain. But my pain isn’t as bad as what others deal with, which is just heartbreaking. I start treatment tomorrow, so I’m praying for positive results. Have a good week! 💖
