Baby steps are good!

This past Christmas, Santa brought me an inspirational journal with some coloring options. I haven’t owned a coloring book in decades, probably since my youth. Maybe I joined in the fun with my kids when they were young. I honestly don’t remember. Anyway, I thought I would give it a try because it sounded relaxing. Well, after the strawberries came to life, my neck began to bark at me. Who knew that coloring could be tough on the body! I sat at the table with my head down, all concentration geared towards keeping the red within the lines. I suppose with any activity, some part of our body will begin to bark sooner or later. So, baby steps, right?

For any goal we set, we begin by taking baby steps. No one starts out at the top. Everyone finds their starting point at the bottom then the climb begins until the destination is reached. This doesn’t mean we won’t stumble, but we will press on. So, I’ll return to this beautiful image, and soon the blooms and leaves will come alive in their wardrobes of oranges, yellows, purples, pinks, and greens. One small step at a time.

Have a wonderful day and thanks for dropping in to my little corner of blogland! ❤️

  1. We all begin with baby steps! They are the nicest [well, maybe second to the completion of a project]!
Happy Wednesday, my dear friend and happy coloring! 🧡💚💜💛💙❤️

Always those baby steps moving us forward. I have an adult color book, but I haven’t used it much. But its there when I am ready. Xo

  3. Wonderful Christmas gifts.. And yes… I know from my painting positions I have neck creaks lol… My Tip is lots of getting up for refreshing making refreshing drinks LOL 😉 xxx Much love Lauren xx

  4. I remember, Lauren, when large poster boards for coloring were all the craze. They were in incredible detail and seemingly took forever to finish but were a meditation that pulled you in from the start. I also remember a song that we used in Peace Corps recruiting way back when I was a recruiter in the late sixties that had a theme song, “You have to take a step at a time.” it was so true of the work we were doing around the world.

    1. Thanks for sharing your great memories, Curt. It seems that taking baby steps and one day at a time are ageless reminders for moving forward. But really they’re the best way! Enjoy wherever you may be now, and I can’t wait to see those giraffes. 🦒😁

  5. Yes girl, even baby steps will move you forward. Your beautiful message reminds me of this quote by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. -“Faith is taking the first step even when you don’t see the whole staircase.” Yay for those baby steps girlfriend. 👣👣👣

    1. I’m glad you enjoyed this message, Kym, and I love that quote! But what’s not to love from any of his advice?! Cheers to baby steps and coloring! Happy Thursday too, my friend. ❤️🌻💝🌸🖍️🖍️🖍️

  6. Baby steps are indeed where we all start, Lauren!

My sweety has been doing colouring for years as a relaxation thing. I asked her how she does it without getting “barked at” by her body and she says that doing it in a relaxed posture as if a meditation, without concern for the lines, has been the key for her. (I’m not *totally* sure I buy that as she does in fact stay inside the lines! 😜)

Those strawberries look very tasty, by the way. A nice treat in the winter! 🤗

    1. Thanks for the smile, Steve, and I had no doubt that she stayed in the lines. 🙂 I’ll figure something out because I need to fill in the strawberries more, and of course, I want to see this finished. We just bought some strawberries and they were delicious! Happy Friday, my friend!

  7. Very True Lauren and a great reminder! We need more like these.
Indeed baby steps are steps that will lead us closer to our objectives. If we start hard, we will soon feel exhausted. But baby steps will allow us to enjoy the ride!
Thank you for sharing and have a wonderful day! 💛

  8. HI Lauren, baby steps is right, especially once you are on the wrong side of 40. I have to be careful with my drawing and artwork. If I do too much I can strain the muscles in my right hand and then I can’t do any for a few days. Moderation in all things (even for mad obsessive people like me).

    1. Hi Robbie, you made me smile with ‘the wrong side of 40’ and I’m a bit further over than you are too. 🙂 Sorry to hear about your hand, but I guess we all have some aches and pains, right? Yes, moderation in all things! And I’m always in awe of your talents! Hugs 🥰

  9. We’re too hard on ourselves. Why do we do that to ourselves!!!! Ugh! I used to think that it was just me and then I pulled my head out of the sand and looked around and realized that so many of us are our own worst enemies! Too hard on no ourselves! Thanks for posting, baby steps!!!

  10. Hi Lauren. Love your coloring book. I have 5 different ones and pick one up some evenings while watching a show. You really do have to adjust your posture when coloring, lol. So is the new journal strictly a coloring book or does it have anything else besides? Hugs ❤

    1. Thanks, Debby! I feel like a kid again! But I have to figure out what works best for my neck. 🙂 It’s actually the journal I told you about, Let that Sh*t Go. So there is good advice and questions to answer, along with some coloring. When I finished the strawberries which I need to fill in more, I thought of baby steps. I think you’d like this journal too. Hugs to you 🥰🩷

      1. Thanks again Lauren. Yes, I do have that journal in my Amazon cart, lol. I just wanted to make sure it wasn’t all coloring because I have several of those already. ❤

      2. Oh, makes sense. In fact, I looked through it last night, and I think that page with the strawberries is the only page for coloring. It’ll take me a while to finish though, so it’s fine. 🙂 Happy coloring! And by the way, the book has some language in it to make a point, just a warning in case you’re totally opposed to it. I don’t normally care for it if it’s excessive, but I overlook it in the journal. 🙂 💖

      3. Thanks again Lauren. It sounds perfect! And yes, with five coloring books already and the immense detail involved, I’m pretty sure I have enough coloring for a lifetime, lol. 🙂 ❤

  11. Lauren, since the Winter Solstice kick in, it seems all I have taken is baby steps. You’re right! We do get where we want, as long as we keep taking those steps.

    This is very inspirational.

Oh speaking of baby steps, how’s you children’s book coming along?

Let me know if I can help in any way? Happy to do a sneak peek post, or whatever!

    o🫶 ❤️x

    1. I’m glad you enjoyed this bit of inspiration, Resa. Baby steps are good for me! Re: my book, my illustrator has 4 more images to create, and then comes the formatting and editing. I hope to release it in the spring. Fingers crossed. This is a new adventure for me. 🙂 Hugs xoxoxo

I find myself pushing myself to my absolute limit sometimes, mainly when working out. Then I fail due to eating habits but your post reminds me that each day is a new opportunity and each small step is one closer to our goal. Great blog 🙂

  13. I’ve learned very valuable lessons about going slowly as a 64-year-old coordination-compromised person in a DIY conversion minivan. If you don’t go slowly you either hurt yourself or spill something (always on your bedding), and if you don’t pack every little and big thing just so, it will come flying toward you when you brake! I’ve gone from the speediest person in the world to the slowest. In some ways I’m sure it’s been good for me…
