Privy

I hold my breath
2 seconds, maybe 3
electric jolt
fleeting
it came
it went
but my thoughts…

trapped in the
grip of those seconds.

Have you ever had
a heart to heart
with your mind?

Who wins in the end?

Have you ever dipped
into contemplation
about all the ‘whys’
floating in the ether,
looking for a companion
to make them complete
like two intended lovers?

Next time the sun sets
for another night’s repose,
let your eyes turn to
the blanket of stars,
twinkling in their elegance.

Are they privy to some vital
piece of knowledge
that has not been proffered to us?

It seems those seconds necessitated
another heart to heart.

  1. And these moments of contemplation change us—like it or not—if only a little.
I so enjoyed your poem. Thanks, Lauren.
I’m also sooo enjoying the constellations. The Pleiades, Lauren. So clear right now. Amazing.

Blessings my friend. Be well. Xoxo

  2. This is so beautiful, Lauren. It articulates that sense of vast wonderment I experience sometimes when looking up at the stars… especially the way I saw them out at a remote camp in a Colorado canyon this past summer. (And truth be told, I hadn’t noticed the image accompaniment until going back to read it a second time!)

    1. Thanks for your beautiful words, Steve. I’m glad you enjoyed this poem, and I can just imagine the starry sky in that remote Colorado camp. Sounds wonderful! I don’t always use images and truly unsure if they’re a benefit or not. 🙂

      1. You’re very welcome, Lauren. I think images can add another element for the senses to enjoy and to connect with the words (for those “visual” learners! 😉).

  3. Sometimes those messages come in sudden flashes, too vast for us to comprehend for more than a moment. But they are there if we clear our minds and gaze at the stars. Beautiful poem, Lauren. ❤

  4. How lovely Lauren!!
These moments are quite special. They come and go at times when we take the time to look at the vast universe and we can feel this heart to heart talk that says it all.
Have a sweet start of the week
    ❤️
