Into the Country

on the way back roads

It was
a perfect day
for cruising
on open roads,
for watching
the cows
watch us
as we paused
for a moment
to warm our faces
from the sun’s
late entrance,
and to relish
in life’s
simple joys

    1. I’m glad you like the looks of this, too, Alison. Going for these drives is something we do often, and I’m glad you have a similar area to enjoy the same. Thanks for the poem compliment, also, and enjoy your weekend! 🌻

  1. Lovely and peaceful photo. I love your line ‘ and the cows watching us’.
Don’t they just. Keep emnjoying your calm meandering among the hills
and the curious cows. Sounds like the moors up North.

    1. Thanks for your lovely comment, Miriam. Those cows have no idea just how cute and entertaining they really are! This is one of our favorite things to do, and I hope you enjoy the same whenever you get the chance. Have a peaceful weekend! 🌷

Ohh, your picture, Lauren and beautiful words. ❤ Some of my most contented hours have been spent in a milking parlour. ❤

    1. Thanks so much, Jane, for your wonderful comment. We love those cows no matter how often we drive by. They’re cute, calm, and entertaining, and they do watch us! Sending hugs for a good weekend! 💗

    1. Thanks so much, John, for your most wonderful comment! This wasn’t meant to be a deep, poignant poem – more on the simple side, but rather a fun and visual write. 🙂 I’m so glad you enjoyed, my friend. Big hugs to you, and have a great long weekend!

    1. Thanks, Betty. It’s a repeat, but I’m glad you enjoyed it again. The weekend’s been relaxing and productive, all in one. Tonight, we’re celebrating Steph’s birthday. Time flies! 🙂 Hope you’re having a great day, too! Hugs! ❤🌼📚🦆🐛

      1. Thanks, and hope you had a good time with your son, too. At least it’s a short week, but I can’t help but feel envious, wishing to be retired. 🙂 Big hugs! 💕🌻🎵😀

    1. I’m sure you have wonderful memories spent on the farm, Ian. I’m glad you enjoyed both the photo and the poem. These drives are always a favorite for us. Hope you’ve had a good weekend!

    1. It sure is, Sarah, and one of our favorite drives to plan on a weekend. I, too, love the green, rolling hills and there is no denying just how cute those cows are, also! 🙂 Love and hugs, dear friend. ❤🐄🐄🐄

  3. This is so wonderfully me, Lauren. This takes me back over fifty years to a time, as a youth, living out in just such a landscape, my favourite pastime was hiking over the grazing fields and meadows that surrounded our home. I was chased by an enraged bull on one occasion but that is a story for another time!

Bless you for this cherished memory brought on through your words. ~sighs~ lovely.

    1. Wow, Don, I am truly humbled by your wonderful comment, and thank you for sharing your “bull” memory. But please let me know if you ever share the full story. 🙂 Thanks again, my dear friend!

      1. Now I know how the chased feels during the annual bull run! Terrifying as it was and a very near catastrophic experience had the bull impacted me…against a barbed wire fenceline and ominous awaiting post, I may not have lived to share the story!

All the same, being raised in the countryside and even that bull chase experience, left their indelible mark on my life. I long to live out in the country again after so many years in the big city. I plan to relocate back to the Okanagan Valley of British Columbia for my retirement years, a region that so profoundly brought me balance, peace of mind, and an unprecedented sense of inspiration through life amidst a vast, mountainous wilderness.

I appreciate your thoughts!
