Copper, “It’s all about me”

If you’re a dog owner you’ll relate to your pup wanting to be fed, eager to fetch, ready for walking, longing for his/her belly rubbed, anxious to play and cuddle, i.e. it’s all about them! It’s up to us, their owners, to provide the best, loving home so they feel safe and secure.
However, when you flip the coin, our time with them is more about us because all they want is to please their owners; to make their families happy. They look at us with those eyes that melt our hearts from the first meeting and there’s no turning back. They can sense our moods and they have our backs.
I’ll use one example using my dog, Copper, when he hears any of his family crying. He’ll walk over to us, rest his head on our leg and look up with his amber eyes as if to say, “I’m here for you.”
Their unconditional love is a gift to be cherished. If you’re a dog or cat owner, I’d love to hear your thoughts, too. ♥

I had to give my dog to a shelter when I moved 9 years ago. It broke my heart. Sammy would wait for me to come home. They said he knew when it was time for me to come in and he would come to the porch and look out the window.
That would be so hard, Kim…I’ve cried many times over dogs we’ve had that have died so I know how you feel and have experienced a similar situation. ♥

They give us so much more than most folks give them credit for. If you ever want to call on an Angel, just look into a dog’s eyes and know they live for you. They are indeed a blessing.

They are always in charge – even if we think otherwise. Recently I read something a little boy said about his dying dog and found it to be so true: He said, “People are born so that they can learn how to live a good life – like loving everybody all the time and being nice, right? Well, dogs already know how to do that, so they don’t have to stay as long.”
…but I wish they did. 🙂

You’re so right Lauren, those dogs really do ‘feel’ when their human family is upset! I don’t have any pets now because I live in a first floor flat, it’s just not practical to have pets in such a small space without a garden, but I’ve never forgotten my family dog when I lived at home, she was as you have described Copper, so sensitive to crying and did the very same thing! When we think about some dogs who get quite anxious tied to a post waiting for their owner to come back out of a local food store, it makes us realise how HUGE their feelings are. I do miss having that furry friend. 🙂 And you are correct about it all being for us, it is – we are so selfish and they are so selfless!
When I was dating my husband, the dog I grew up with from puppy stage, passed away. Jasper was an English Springer Spaniel and he was my baby. It was hard moving out on my own because I missed him just like you mentioned about your family dog. When he died, I think I cried an entire weekend.
The impact they have on us is really indescribable and can only be felt in the heart. I suppose it’s about both dog and owner and the balance of keeping each safe and happy. Thanks for stopping by and commenting! ♥
And there’s no better feeling than to return home from work in the evening to see a nose and two eyes looking eagerly through the window as they hear the car coming up the driveway. Dogs are givers, but cats are mean takers.
Well said, Ian, about dogs eagerly awaiting their owner’s return but I’m not sure about cats because I’ve never owned one. 🙂
Cats are possessive and most like being stroked but if they get their nose out of joint they watch you as they head for the nearest lounge or curtain and start shredding it. We’ve had some nasty ones in our time and refuse to have one now. Besides that they are hard on native wildlife. If they confined their killing to rats and mice it would be a blessing but their destructive tendencies go way beyond that.

He’s beautiful. Lauren. I love dogs and cats, but I am allergic to cats, so we don’t have one, and my husband is resisting getting a dog. However, I am good friends with all of the neighborhood dogs.
My oldest grandson has an old tabby and he loves when I am around. Even though I am allergic to him, I still spoil him. My granddaughter and her parents have a black lab, and Riley and Grammie are best buds.

A beautiful story on Copper Lauren, I,ve had a number of dogs in my life, all beautiful and individual in their own way. They do understand you and they do feel your emotions. As you know, their eyes show their love and devotion.
