An Avoidable Tizzy

Dr. Google isn’t credible, which leads me to the quote, “Don’t believe what you read on the internet.” I didn’t heed the advice. I mimicked the drowning man in the parable,  “Two Boats and a Helicopter.” Do you recall this man who passed up several rescue attempts while facing raging floodwaters because he knew that God would save him? How we miss the signs…Instead, I dove into the words, ignorant of their harm like a fly into a web – each syllable engrained into my psyche, tossing me into a tizzy as Dad would say. I couldn’t get out of my head. It was a night of sheet thrashing. Poor sheets thinking, “What have we done?”

I held my breath, hoping for daylight to peek through the curtains, watching the red digits on the loyal clock seemingly remain in place. So, when light glimmered through the white fabric, it felt like a lighthouse’s beacon. I let go of an exhale, another day – enough of those words! They can’t hurt me anymore (sticks and stones), for darkness is no longer their ally. A step forward into a new mindset that will comfort and encourage.

A Welcoming Sunrise

Love doesn’t search for origin
or shade of skin.
It holds no judgement of gender
or dwellings we reside in.

Love doesn’t search for success
or garments on our back.
It is unattached to wealth
or possessions we lack.

Love draws no margins,
no fettering of abilities.
Love praises positivity,
loathing all inequities.

What soul doesn’t wish
for acceptance to travel
pathways of truth, to
thrive in the promise of life’s
phenomenal sunrises?

If only…

Hearts can shatter if beaten down.
Souls can be crushed if pounded.
Judging others isn’t a right.
People should be allowed to live
the life they were intended.
Why is violence the solution
for those who loathe

a culture or religion?
Special nuances making up
each of us are nobody’s business.
Differences afford knowledge.
Opening our hearts and minds,
what a beautiful world…If only.
How drab the vision
outside our windows would look

if we were identical in every minute
aspect of our inner and outer selves.
Your world, My world,
would turn colorless.
Respecting and accepting:
unoriginal, but words repeated
again and again
until the narratives and visuals
transform.
No one deserves to live
beneath a cloud of pretense
in youth or adulthood.
We all should have the freedom
to live within the arms of truth.
I can only imagine how invisible scars
can create hell for the heart.
Love should be universal throughout
and shouldn’t acquiesce temper.
Love should remain the center
of everyone.
But has kindness and compassion
been shoved under the bus?
Injustice equals disgust.

The Game

It’s better to move on, if you can’t play. Don’t reside in self-pity.
Its color isn’t your best shade, and it’s their loss. They have no
idea what they’re missing – your compassion, your sincerity,
your wit, and all the love you hold in your heart. Don’t be quick
to belittle these qualities; not everyone is worthy of their presence.
They can’t simply be attained or purchased with a hundred-dollar
bill. They are innate in your DNA. They depict who you are –
a person of integrity, a person who cares about the common good
and cares less about false images. Your life is about the love you
offer. Your smile and jolly laugh spread onto others, affording them
a taste of happiness. Your past mistakes are not meant to haunt you
into the present or future. Instead, allow them to make you wiser.
If you invite them to ride along, misery will surely worm its way
in. And who wants to experience life in a confining box of misery?
It would be more rewarding to live in a bubble of joy, to watch it
float into the universe, calming storms and designing sunrises,
turning despair into hope and creating more smiles on the streets.
Remember who you are – that you are worth every bit of love you
receive and every spoonful of joy you feel.

A Walk on the Trail

IMG_3731

The duff was soft and easy
as I walked on the trail
The trees leaned in closer,
listening to my prayers
The wildflowers

continued to meditate
I searched for myself
along the way
sometimes with head
up to the sky

and the breeze
passing by –
walking at a pace
pleasant for turtles
I took my time
digging deeply inside
to discover my truth
but instead, I found you

Found

It was hidden
like a speck
of dust

in the wind,
unsure if it
was meant
to surface,
causing e
motions
to run wild
in a
frenzy
of ambivalence,

but its arrival
is valuable
for all tomorrows
