Tightrope
Let us gently walk
on this tightrope called life,
trying to keep our bodies still,
our minds calm
which easily slip into
the grip of worry,
because prying the ‘worry fingers’
away from worn-out brains
nearly takes the jaws of life.
Make each step gentle
to avoid tumbling
into a rabbit hole of anxiety,
sliding deeper
into shadows that frighten,
and softer steps
are healthier
than getting stuck
in the muck of negativity
that will weigh us down
like an overloaded backpack.
The tightrope may fray though.
It could snap with one wrong footprint.
So, our light steps are obligated
to keep us balanced.
Our gentle steps will steady
the wind in our wings.

Thanks so much for your wonderful words, Luisa. I appreciate them very much, and I’m glad my poem had such a positive effect on you. 💞
Many thanks to you for your kind reply, dearest Lauren ❣️💖❣️
💕🌺🤗
Excellent dearest Lauren 👏👏👏
Thanks very much, Gabriela! Your beautiful comment is greatly appreciated! 💕
My pleasure hon 🌹❤️🌹
Lovely poem! Reminds me of the song ‘Under the surface’ from the Disney movie ‘Encanto!’
The picture also perfectly complements the poem! Great work ♥️
I appreciate your insightful comment! I haven’t seen the movie, so I had to look it up and listen. 🙂 Thanks so much! 💖
😊 I had to see it because of my younger cousin…it was nice..
Your loving words brought comfort today and I am grateful. Thank you, Lauren. Here’s to your soft steps. Xxx🩷🌹🩷
I’m so glad, Jane, and you’re welcome! Thank you, dear friend, for your lovely words. Sending hugs and love your way. xoxoxo
This is an awesome poem and very meaningful. I have often likened life to a rollercoaster with many ups and downs but as I get older a tightrope might be more applicable. What I would really like life to be is a flat open road. (perhaps its my prairie background) ❤️❤️
Thanks so much, Darlene, for your awesome words! I’ve done the same regarding a rollercoaster, and then a tightrope came to mind. But I do like your idea of a flat open road. And the inspiration from your prairie background fits perfectly. Thanks again! 💖🌷
❤️❤️
…softer steps are healthier than getting stuck…
Whoa…that really speaks to me this morning, Lauren.
❤️xo!
I’m so glad, Vickie! I wrote this for me but hoped it would help others too. Hugs, my friend 💕🤗
Love it. ❤️
Your words are timely. Whether it’s personal or global, worry is inevitable right now it seems.
Thanks, VJ! I appreciate that, and I really have to focus on less worrying. So this poem benefits me as much as anyone else. 💞
Welcome
Wow – incredible. I love
“prying the ‘worry fingers’
away from worn-out brains
nearly takes the jaws of life.“
Right! Thank you, Lauren!
Thanks for your wonderful words, Wynne, and I’m glad you loved those lines. A reminder to not let the worry take control is good for all of us. It’s surely good for me! 🙂 ❤️
That poem got me thinking and wondering whether I’d rather be on that tightrope in the air or deal with my problems on the ground. I think I know the answer.
🙂🙂
Love the poem especially that last two lines. Definitely resonated with me 💗
That’s wonderful, Pooja! Thanks so much for your lovely words. I personally need this reminder now and then. 🙂 ❤️
You’re so welcome, we all need that reminder sometimes ❤️😊
Resonated today Lauren.
Love this beautifully written poem.
It is a tightrope at times 🙄
Hugs and lots of love my friend 🥰🤗😘
I’m glad my words resonated, Maggie. I wrote it personally for me, but then I changed it for everyone. It’s so easy to slide down that rabbit hole of worry, at least, it is for me. 🙂 Hugs and lots of love to you also, my friend 💞💫🥰💐
Yup, it is my friend 🙃 like you say, one foot in the wrong direction.
Take good care Lauren.
Much love to you ❤️🤗🙏😘
An uplifting poem, Lauren. 😊
Thanks so much, John! 🥰
😊
Thank you for this… The tightrope of my mind was more than taught and while reading this, I was able to get to the other side. xx
How wonderful to ‘hear’ Annette. Thank you for your lovely words, and I’m so glad my poem was calming for you. 💕
Yes, I’ve been fighting anxiety over too much to do. Taxes, my HOA Newsletter, a program for a charity event, press releases and flyers for the event. All at once! Thank you for your calming words.
You have a lot on your plate, Elizabeth, so I’m glad my poem was calming for you. Take one task at a time, and don’t forget to breathe. ❤️
I got taxes prepared and uploaded to the CPA this weekend. Today I wrote all the copy for the HOA newsletter. I’m waiting for it to be proofread and approved before I lay it out. Then on to the next thing. One task at a time! Yes, that’s the secret.
Such a vivid way of describing a balancing act, with “worry fingers.” Quite true. Then I really like your encouragement of light, gentle steps. Better for that balancing 🙂
Thanks for your insightful comment, Dave. Life is a balancing act, isn’t it? I think a reminder to take ‘gentle steps’ is helpful now and then. At least it is for me. 🙂 I’m glad you enjoyed this poem. 🙏😃
The tightrope made a good analogy to life, Lauren. Very nicely done.
Thanks, Mary! I appreciate your kind comment. 💕
What a great reminder, Lauren. ❤
Thanks so much, Miriam! That’s great to know! 💗
Oh what a lovely poem Lauren! Life is indeed like walking a tightrope, without a safety net on some days! UGH! 😝 Thanks a million for sharing such a poignant poem my friend. 🤗💖🥰 Hugs and smooches! 😘
Thanks for your awesome words, Kym, and I’m so glad my poem struck a chord with you. Ugh is right, isn’t it? 🙂 Moving forward, have a fabulous day, my friend! Hugs and smooches to you! 💞🤗🌺💫🥰

Awwwww Lauren! 🤗💖😍🙏🏼😘
🥰💕💕🥰
I agree 100% with the sentiment in your poem, but, oh, it’s hard to put into practice. I’ll keep trying, though.
I’m glad and thank you, Liz! Don’t feel bad, I have to keep trying too!
You’re welcome, Lauren.
This would have to be one of your best poems Lauren
Wow, Ian, coming from such a great writer, I’m touched by your words. Thank you!
Lauren you are a professional but I just write for the pleasure of it and cannot claim that level of competence in writing. Thank you for your encouragement.
Oh, Ian, I’m not a professional, but I am putting myself out there more than I ever have. Not sure what my end goal is, but if others are touched by my writing then that is the best reward. And you are an incredible writer, so please don’t see yourself short. I always appreciate your feedback.
You’re welcome, and thanks again! 😁
“Our gentle steps will steady the wind in our wings.” This line has really stuck with me. Beautiful Lauren.
Thanks, Brian, I kinda like that line too. 🙂 So, I’m glad it stuck with you. 😃
Terrific piece, Lauren. Sometimes it feels like we’re all out there on a tightrope together.
Thanks so much, Pete! It sure does, doesn’t it? 🙂 Have a great week!
Beautiful, Lauren:) We need much more gentle steps!
Thanks, Denise! I need to heed my own advice too. 🙂 xo
I agree with each word, Lauren. Life is like that – thanks for the reminder.

Our gentle steps will steady

Beautiful words, Lauren, so much needed in these times we are all in. Gentleness to self and loved ones is really the key.
Thanks for your wonderful words, Steve. The world is crazy, and I need to heed my own advice. 🙂
You’re welcome, Lauren. You sum it up well… often we offer helpful wisdom in service of others yet sometimes forget to incorporate it into our own lives to ease our suffering.
It’s completely okay Lauren. Have a wonderful day 💞💞
great analogy, Linda xx
Your analogy is so spot on, Lauren. It’s all about taking those gentle steps and staying balanced.
Thanks so much, Ritish! That is the plan, so even I need this reminder. 🙂 Have a wonderful day!
The tightrope seems a lot narrower these days.
It sure does, which is upsetting. On a lighter note, have a great day, Binky!
So beautiful, my dearest friend. Always a pleasure reading your poems.
Love and many hugs

A beautiful poem, Lauren. I feel like I need these reminders almost every day these days. You’re poems are a source of inspiration, calm, and balance in a turbulent world.
Aww, thanks for your lovely words, Diana, and I’m feeling the same these days too. Sigh. Enjoy your weekend! Hugs!
A wise poem, dear Lauren. Your poetry always seems to reflect something on my mind.
There is a lot to stress about.
I grabbed onto the chain’s arts link, and will use that to best advantage.
Make art not war!

Thanks so much, Resa. I’ve (we’ve) been a bit stressed lately b/c of the news, so many of these poems were written for selfish reasons, but hoping they could provide calm for others too. Make art not war! Agree! Love and hugs to you! xoxoxoxoxo
The news is a shi% show!
Maybe selfish in the beginning, but you have shared feelings and thoughts many have.
Here, in the 51st state, we have painful, confused feelings, too.
Lots to say, but suffice too know I adore many American friends I’ve made here on WP.
It breaks my heart whenever I realize someone I know and like voted for …….
