Light the candles!

This week has been tough. Forward is the only direction, while staying hopeful and strong, persevering, and focusing on the good, the sweetness. So, even though I shared this poem last November, I thought it would be apropos for a second go around. If you’ve read it before, I hope you don’t mind a repeat.

November

A tall cedar pitches its pods
onto the smooth driveway,
footsteps crunch on fallen foliage

a broom sweeps, piles grow
for hoisting into the bin

but the tall cedar pitches again
oh, this lovely season!

the air turns crisp for layering,
wiping sweat away
from summer’s fever,
raindrops soothe flaccid petals

early evenings surrender
to nightfall,
but set out the candles!
Play Sinatra on vinyl
and sink into coziness

Will you remember
this sweet November?

  1. Sorry to hear you’ve found a rough patch this week Lauren, May it pass and peace find it way back quickly. This poem is beautiful. Of course most of your work is.

  2. A beautiful poem and good for this time, helping us focus on the wonder around us, and strengthening those who have been brought low. Thank you, Lauren. 🤗

  3. Sinking into the cozy scene you’ve created and one of the many things to love about poetry is discovering something new with each read. Like songs that speak to us, poems also deserve a repeat. 🕯️

  4. I had to come over and read this based on your comment to me, Lauren. I read it and spontaneously took a deep breath. I don’t think I’ve breathed in two days (at least that what it felt like). Thank you for the reminder of November’s blessings and that beauty still exists.

    1. I didn’t mean to nudge, but it all tied in with how we’re feeling. So thanks for reading, Diana. I love this season, so I need to keep that in mind. But I’ll admit that every time we watch the news, we cringe. Sigh. And dare I give you another nudge to check out today’s post. 🙂 It’s on a happier note. But only if you have time. Otherwise, have a wonderful weekend, and keep breathing! Hugs!

  5. Nature has always provided balm for the troubled soul, Lauren, if we will just pause and listen. In times like these, a walk in the woods may be the best thing we can do for ourselves. Thank you for your lovely

    1. Whoops. I was about to say, “Thanks for your lovely poem to the beauty of fall, the changing seasons, and the simple things of life followed by a cozy evening.” –Curt

    1. Thanks, Marie. The love is appreciated, and I hope for brighter days. But I’m not sure what is in store for our country, but what I’ve heard, it’s scary, to say the least. I’m glad you enjoyed the poem and cozy atmosphere. Sending love and hugs your way. xoxo
