April showers arrive in March!

We’ve had a lot of rain this winter, but then it felt like spring had arrived last week with several sunny and warmer days. It was wonderful! But now showers are due to return this afternoon through tomorrow, and then again, later next week. Well, it does no good to argue with Mother Nature, so we’ll roll with the rain!
But I was in the mood for spring, so I’m bringing it on!

One of my poems from my book, Ever So Gently, makes me wish we were back at the lake (hence, my blog header), keeping company with nature and enjoying those magnificent sunrises and sunsets…

The Sun Knows

Evening advances.
The shore wears nothing
but a few rocks
scattered on its sand.
In their quiet space,
a father and son hold fishing lines
hoping their luck will lift.
A lone sailboat glides by
pausing for the unfolding.
With hair the color of an egret,
an older man leans against a stump.

Clouds understand why we wait.
A fine yellow highlighter
has delicately outlined
their smooth edges.
Occasionally, trout jump
out of the still water,
only a few ripples
show their excitement.

Then suddenly the sky explodes
in tangerines, salmons, canary yellows –
brighter with every second.
It’s as though a painter swished
her brush back and forth
on the immense backdrop,
to the left, to the right,
repeating with the grace
of an orchestra leader.
Can the sun slipping behind
downy clouds
be more spectacular?

    Alas, it’s snowed here all week and we’re supposed to get a few inches today. It’s been snowing all morning.

    Gorgeous flower shots. Not even a crocus here. A few crazy warm days tumble by, but now it’s been snowing here for daze!

    1. Thanks a bunch, Resa! I’m glad you enjoyed the blooms, and many friends are dealing with snow like you. To me, it’s beautiful because we don’t get snow here.   8. The photos are so gorgeous and I love your poem at the lake. Yes, we’ve had a cold and rainy winter in Scottsdale. We wake up to a bright sunny day and be afternoon, it’s cloudy with thunder and rain.

    1. Thanks so much, Pooja! I hope you get more rain. It’s interesting how it comes in droves in some places, and avoids other areas. Luckily, our reservoirs are full, so I think it’s safe to say that we’re ready for sunshine. 😍🌞

  22. Mmmm what lovely photos and the colours in the poem are as vibrant.

    I am looking forward to the return of colour. Right now it is dull and dirty here, ice everywhere from freeze-thaw-freeze. Soon! 🌞

    1. Aww, thanks a bunch, Steve! It’s looking the same here too, but with rain and not dirty ice. Just dull. But since Monday is my special day, we’re venturing out to a sleepy cute beach town, one of my faves. Good thing it’s not storming. But let’s hope for sunshine soon, for the both of us! 🥂

  24. Gorgeous, colorful photos, Lauren, and your poem is bursting with vibrant imagery. I wish I could drive again. I live near several lakes and a river and would love to visit them regularly. There’s something about bodies of water that really refreshes the soul.

    1. Thanks so much, Mike! With all this rain, I am so ready for spring, so why not share? I wish you could too, my friend. We love any body of water, but especially lakes or rivers. Not to mention, the abundance of inspiration they offer for writers. 🙂 I’m so glad you enjoyed this spring scene. And even though it’s raining, Monday is my special day, so we’re venturing out for my bday weekend. There’s a sleepy little beach town that we love, so that’s where we’re headed. The last year has been different with my health changing, but I have to focus on the silver lining.
