The Purpose of Our Gift…

Dear Friends,

Happy Friday! Hubby and I are finally feeling human again after being down with our first spell of Covid. The last few weeks reminded me of a poem from my recent book. And even though I’ve shared it before, I feel it’s a good reminder for all of us. I hope you feel the same…

Darker than the Deepest Sea

Life is like a package wrapped in festive paper.
The matching ribbons fascinate in their delicate,
entwined company, fingers gently unravel,

heartbeats increase from excitement.
We lift the lid, peek inside, letting our
inner child frolic to the forefront of our minds.

But unlike recyclable paper, the gift of life
cannot be tossed back into the universe.
There is no spare awaiting on the sidelines,
and we should be mindful that the contents
require tenderness with instructions solely
for each one of us individually,
because as visible as a ruby rose
in a garden of white daisies…

we are beautifully unique.

Once we follow these
with gratitude and vivacity,
the purpose of our gift will reveal itself
as naturally as moonlight on a night
darker than the deepest sea.

  1. This poem is so beautifully written πŸ₯°πŸ’• Its great to hear you and the hubby are feeling better. Covid is horrible. I’ve had it twice. The very first time I had it, I literally felt like I was dying. It was sooo scary. Thank God y’all’s bodies mine system were able to fight it off.

    1. Thanks for your wonderful words, Jenny. I’m glad you liked this poem. I’m sorry to hear that you’ve had Covid twice and how bad it was. But I hope you don’t get it again. I don’t know how we dodged it all these years, but our cases were mild though awful as well. The fever and fatigue were the worst. Anyway, take good care and stay well. Thanks again for your beautiful comment. πŸ’•

      1. You’re very welcome Sweetheart πŸ’• That is amazing how you and the hubby dodged COVID all these years. I’m glad y’all’s symptoms were mild. I can certainly relate to the fatigue being awful. When a person doesn’t have enough energy to get up from the couch just to so much as go to the bathroom, it’s a very scary thing to go through. That’s what I went through the very first time I had Covid. I’m so glad y’all are feeling much better. πŸ₯°

  2. Glad to hear you’re on the road to recovery from Covid. Hope you’re back to normal soon. πŸ™‚

This poem is gorgeous and deep. I love the imagery of the flowers, moonlight and the sea, and the message resonates. Superb poetic craftsmanship, Lauren. A delight to read. πŸ™‚

    1. Thanks so much, Mike. We had never had it before, and honestly, though it was mild, it felt like it would never end. That’s why this poem came to mind, and your amazing words make my day. I appreciate them so much, coming from such a talented writer. Thanks again. β€οΈπŸ€—

  3. A beautiful poem I hadn’t read before, Lauren. Lovely sentiments. And I’m glad you and hubby are finally feeling better. Enjoy the weekend!

    1. Thanks always, Steve, for your wonderful words of encouragement. And it’s nice to finally feel good on a weekend. We missed a couple when we were sick. πŸ™‚ Enjoy yours too, and Happy listening to tunes! πŸ€—πŸŽΆπŸŽ΅

      1. Thank you, that’s kind, Lauren. Just a minor bug, it seems. First time I’ve felt punky in about four years so I can’t really complain!

  4. Happy that you and hubby are all better again. I waited to hear this wonderful news. So happy.

And that poemβ€” aww, that poem. Gorgeous. The perfect reminder that to me sounds like a gratitude prayer. Thanks for sharing it, sweet Lauren.
Have a splendid weekend. OxOx πŸ˜‰

    1. Thanks, Selma, it took a good two weeks which is a long time to be ‘down and out.’ I’m so glad you like this poem. I thought it would tie in perfectly. πŸ™‚ By the way, watch for your post on Monday. I usually post in the morning when I’m up. But maybe I’ll schedule it for midnight. At any rate, it’s ready, and on Tuesday, I will share my review. I’m replicating your process. πŸ™‚ So, Monday and Tuesday you will shine on my blog. Enjoy your weekend, dear friend! Hugs! πŸ§‘πŸπŸ‚πŸ§‘

      1. Beautiful. So happy.

And the north wind made an appearance. Yay? I like the north wind. πŸ‘πŸ½ 🧦 are out! πŸ˜‰
Have a good weekend, Lauren. And I’m looking forward to Monday. Thanks so dearly.
(How good it is to be shared by you) πŸ’—

  5. What a lovely poem.
Glad you are both over Covid. The HH had it recently He got the paxlovid and it made it easier than it might have been.
Thanks for stopping by and supporting Denise.
    Wishing you a creative day.
    Sandra

    1. Thanks for visiting, Sandra, and for your kind words. We had a false negative at first, so by the time we tested positive, we didn’t qualify for paxlovid because of when the symptoms began. So strange with the false negative. Ours was mild, except for fevers in the beginning and fatigue that lasted for two weeks. Anyway, I’m glad the paxlovid helped in your case. I’m also happy to support Denise and it’s great to meet you too. πŸ’ž

  6. What a beautiful and precious poem πŸ€— Lauren my friend. I am so glad you and your hubbie have recouperated from that dreadful virus. 😷 Stay safe girlfriend! πŸ™πŸΌ

    1. Thanks for your lovely words on both counts, Kym. I’m happy you liked the poem, and it really does feel good to feel human again. πŸ™‚ Stay well too! I hear it’s going around again. πŸ§‘πŸπŸ‚πŸ§‘

  7. So happy for you and your best buddy that you are feeling better and your poem is perfect! We are unique. We all have a gift to offer. Thank you, Lauren, for this reminder in such delicate words. ❀

  8. Yay! You’re better.
I adore this poem. I remember it well.
It is one directly and dearly taken to heart.
    Thank you, Lauren! xo🌺🧑

      1. We have Kaiser and heard it will be out early next month. We’ll be in line too. At least our case was mild because I can’t imagine anything worse like others have experienced. Those who have passed and those who are now long haulers. So sad, to say the least. On a lighter note, enjoy your day. πŸ₯°

      2. Thanks for that info Lauren. So just know, the medical advice here is – if you had Covid, you should wait at least 3 months before getting a booster, because we produce antibodies. πŸ™‚ ❀
