Memories, Tears & Sinful Cravings

I heard about this poetry form, Cinquain, during one of my visits to http://purplesplatitudes.wordpress.com. If you get the chance, stop by Michael’s blog. His writing is wonderful and he ventures into different poetry forms and emotions. I know you won’t be disappointed!

I would definitely call these “rough drafts” and more practicing is in the future, but I hope you enjoy…

When they were Young

Giggles,
barefoot on cool
grass, swinging in summer
breeze, smiles bigger than Texas state
the past

Diagnosis

Covered
ears with shaky
hands, unbelievable
echoes of pain flow in and out
fear not?

Chocolate

Craving
comfort food, oh,
something creamy sounds good
gooey, sinfully delicious
dark, though

  1. These are all good, Lauren. 🙂 You write about three very different things, changing the mood each time, but then linking them all together with the thread of “life” in all of it’s innocence, big defining moments, and those tiny pleasures that make all the difference. Great job! Love and hugs, my friend. xoxo

    1. Thanks so much, Angela, and I just love your reply about “linking them all together with the thread of life in all of it’s innocence, big defining moments, and those tiny pleasures that make all the difference.” Such a beautiful way of describing them…thank you! I always appreciate your wonderful feedback as I wish my brain was linked to yours for writing! 🙂 Lots of love and hugs to you, too! xoxo

    1. Thanks so much, Marina! This form was fun to work with and I’d like to try more new forms this year. There’s nothing like stepping out of the box! 🙂 Hope you are well! xx

  2. these are hardly rough drafts, and if they are … I better start working on mine! These are wonderful AS IS Lauren, although I really don’t get the whole chocolate thingy 🙂 j/k You should play with an oddquain now, or combine the two , maybe alternating them in different stanzas in the same poem or something. You can do it! Oh, and thanks for such undeserved referral to my blog.

    1. Haha, Michael! Thanks for the praise and I hope by now you understand chocolate! 🙂 Oddquain? Okay, I’ll look it up and give it a go, too! I appreciate the encouragement and I wasn’t going to do this post without giving you a “shout out!” I’ve always loved your writing!

      1. cinquain is even, 2 4 6 8 2, oddquain is odd syllable counts per line, 1 3 5 7 1. I’ll be watching …. see my examples or find others online. Happy writing and sunshine.

  3. I love these Lauren! It’s good trying out new forms. Ive tried a few cinquains with a slightly different form to them; it seems there are quite a few different syllable counts. I can soon become confused and enjoy going back to being free!

  4. Ah, whatever the form, you have captured life in all its innocence, complication and survival through simply having faith. That is so often what you offer through your beautiful writing, Lauren! XO ♥

    1. Aww…thanks, PJ, and yes, you should try! I found out the “rules” from Michael’s blog, but you can also Google them…or I can send you a link, if you’d like…God Bless you, too!

  5. Easter is a promise of joy and renewal
