Middle of Day

Chimes ring contrasting to
hammer against nail – whack!
Homes get makeovers
why not shine the dull?
Owl keeps watch with golden eyes
its presence reticent to surroundings
Birds glide in now and then for a snack
residual seed drifts to concrete
Leaves flutter from gentle nudge
of summer’s breeze
Footsteps on hardwood walk several feet
was their energy worth it?
Clinking of glass on glass adds rhythm
but not for cutting the rug
Voices remain soundless
where have all the people gone?

    1. Thanks so much for “joining” me, Lisa. I always appreciate your kind words. This poem was born from a quiet afternoon when I felt like jotting some observations down. 🙂

    1. That’s a great compliment from the amazing writer that you are, Mark. Thank you! It was another quiet afternoon on the patio. I listened and then I jotted down notes. 🙂

    1. Thanks so much for your creative observation, Balroop. I love it, and that owl was a gift that we truly love too. It’s almost as if those eyes are watching us when we’re sitting on the patio. 🥰

    Hi Lauren,

You have certainly been a busy lady with all your writings. I appreciate how you continue to venture into new forms of writing.

I’m returning home this weekend and hope you and I can carve out a time to get together. It seems like it’s been a long time.

    Love, Sharon
