Lately…

Lately…

the world sings virus lyrics
and lungs struggle to take in
gray air. I can’t help noticing
clouds parked on foreheads.
Looking to the horizon, dusty
cobwebs hang in each corner.
It’s time to dim the lights
out of memories, how life
once was. Fingers itch to
press life’s reset button
.
Answers remain ambiguous.
I want to watch the sun
breathe in and out and

the moon ride the night
as stars dance in the sky –
trying to find my place
in an
ever-changing
landscape.

      • I appreciate your wonderful comment, Raj, and I’m sure many share in our longing for the sun, moon, and dancing stars. Humans need to be more compassionate in how they treat Mother Earth or things will only worsen, which is a frightening thought. Stay safe, my friend.

    • Hi Barbara, I’m glad you resonated with my words, even though the heart of the subject isn’t too uplifting. Though, the longing is apparent, and I would assume many are longing for peace in a broad sense of the term, as you mentioned. Stay safe and thanks for stopping by. I always appreciate your visits and feedback. 💕

    • It’s always my hope that the words I share resonate in some way, Ian. So, thank you for your wonderful comment. It’s just that life isn’t always rosy, but its experiences provide inspiration, nonetheless.

  1. Wonderful thoughts, articulated so well Lauren. I haven’t seen a blue sky for two weeks now and not stepped out even for a walk. Difficult times and they say fire season has not even started!

    • Thanks so much for your wonderful words, Balroop. I think most of us have never seen this new fire normal before. What a year 2020 has been! I know, you’re right about the season’s start date. We still have at least two more months to go. It would be so easy to lean into fear, but instead, we’re just trying to be prepared for anything because anything goes these days. Stay safe, dear friend.

  2. Brilliant poem dearest Lauren, capturing the heartache of many souls longing for the same things we once took for granted.. ❤
Sending Huge hugs your way my friend… And Keep focused upon the horizon….. For we each hold the New Dawn within our hearts if we focus our intention on creating it without fear as we stand up for our Sovereignty of our Human rights of the rights to breath, and the rights to be Free…
    Love and Blessings my friend… Hold tight….. ❤ ❤ ❤

    • Thanks so much, Sue, for all you said. Such encouraging and motivating words. And I appreciate the hugs, too. Others who have been in the heart of the fires are doing much worse. So, our complaints are trivial. But it’s not just the fires, it’s the entire combination of all that has happened this year. How surreal for everyone on different levels. Anyway, I’m holding tight to your lovely comment and also to everything I am grateful for…Love and hugs to you, too, dear friend. 💕💕💕💕

      • Keep that love and faith alive in your heart Lauren 💜❤️💜 there is battle being fought of dark Vs light at this moment in time, so manifested more light by holding onto love over fear 💕🙏 and keep focused on a world full of love, not the one being conjured up in the fear. 🙏💚💕

    • Thanks again, Debby, for your lovely words. It’s astonishing to see so many fires burning in CA, but also in OR and WA. I read a little blurp that FEMA is in Oregon, but don’t quote me. It’s really crazy and we still have October to get through. And you’re right, masks are double duty. Who would’ve thunk? 🙄 Take care! 💓💓

  3. Lauren, I’ve been feeling exactly the same way lately….longing to hit a reset button.
I hope you’re doing all right with all the smoke. It’s been bad here for a week now and I know it’s even worse where you are. Take good care…. sending hugs 💕💕

    • I think many are feeling the same way. It’s been a strange and stressful year, and I hope that 2021 begins on a more cheerful note. The air has been bad, but I think it’s slowly clearing up. It’s really bad further north into OR and WA, though. So, how are you doing? We haven’t done much outside, except for working. Copper has been getting shorter walks and missed some on days when the air was worse. He’s confused. Anyway, take good care, too, and I’m sending hugs your way also. 🥰💗💗💗

  4. Your poem is beyond perfect. And actually brought tears to my eyes as I think of my family and friends who are suffering from the smoke of the California wildfires. We are all suffering and wishing we could hit that reset button. Stupendously done. 💙🙏

    • Thanks for your beautiful words, Pam, and I pray your family and friends are safe too. What a crazy year 2020 has turned out to be with so much to worry about. Let’s hope for a less dramatic 2021. Stay safe. 💕
