Just pet me and love me is all I really ask
I know it’s not such a difficult task
for when you focus on my amber eyes
the love I show is no surprise
You get a big smile when you rub my tummy
‘cuz all the attention is really yummy
You’ve taught me well when it comes to heeling
but I can’t help if squirrels are so appealing
I sit, I stay and lie down on command and
can’t wait for my treat out of your loving hand
I know sometimes on our walks I’m a handful
From now on, I’ll do my best and try not to pull
Big, strong labs don’t often get mushy
but I’ll say one thing that might be gushy
If you didn’t adopt me on that special day
I don’t know how I’d feel…happy or afraid
So, my family, to you I offer my paw and
I’m very grateful you chose me to be your dog ♥

Extra nice poem; the words do say there is love behind each and every letter.
Aww..thanks, Steve, and there definitely is!
If pets could talk
What would they say
Sweet words like this
To brighten your day
Thanks so much, this is great, and if only they could talk! 🙂
Awww. Lauren you have captured within your words that which I know those amber eyes long to tell you that day of adoption and every day since just how thankful your dog is to have such a great Family as your to live with. 🙂
Beautiful. 🙂 🙂 🙂
Love Sue x0xx0x
Thanks, Sue, for your lovely, lovely words…we are all lucky! 🙂 Lots of love and hugs to you! xoxox
I always was and still am scared of dogs. But when I see their loving and devoted eyes, and when I witness how happy they make the others, it warms my heart and I long for that feeling of a friend… ❤️
Thanks, Chatty..I can understand being fearful; I’m that way, sometimes, with dogs I don’t know. But maybe someday your heart will melt at the sight of a cute little puppy face…♥
Even my rabbits are pretty good at being loving friends, when they aren’t being too cheeky!
I used to have rabbits, so I completely understand! 🙂
So cute Lauren! I love my dogs and it is obvious that your Copper is a fabulous extension of your family as well!
Thanks, Charlene, and since you’re a dog lover yourself, you can really understand the bond between owners and their canines…and yes, Copper has been a great addition to our family…xx
ADORABLE!! Copper gets the spotlight ❤
Thanks, Christy, and yes, he does get the spotlight every so often! 🙂 ♥
Clearly Copper not only knows he’s loved but that he’s adorable enough to get away with a few good things!
xo
He sure does know and he sure does get away with some stuff, but not all! He’s come a long way in a year and a half and now knows his home and that he is loved and safe. xo
OH oh oh! Adorable poem and a beautiful boy! x
Aww…thanks so much, Pooky! ♥
Aahh – how delightfully sweet!♥ And I think they really do choose us. We like to believe it’s the other way around of course! 😉 Such a loving doggy face too! 😀
Thanks, Suzy, and you’re probably right on who’s choosing who! 🙂 xo
That sounds exactly like what a dog would write!
Thanks, Binky, I did my best to read his “eyes.” 🙂
Ode to Copper. So very nice. I read the title but it didn’t click. I thought it was a love poem the first couple of lines. 🙂
Thanks, Kim, and too funny, but I can see how you thought that! 🙂
super like 🙂
Thanks, Kruti! 🙂
I don’t have a pet, but your poem is just lovely! 🙂
Thank you very much, Nandini, for your lovely comment! 🙂
Aww this just melted my heart Lauren, its beautiful. ❤ Xxx
Thanks, Chris, and I know your heart can relate, too! ♥ HBL xo
Awww such a cute poem, Lauren! Love Copper. And I love it when you share photos of this cutie. 🙂 Big hugs. Will go to Facebook probably tomorrow… I can’t handle Twitter+Pinterest+Wordpress aaaand FB tonight. lol But I read your comments on my phone before starting my day. I kinda always do that but I’m always so sleepy lol… anyway it’s a good way to have a great day since your comments MAKE MY DAY. Ca me fait toujours plaisir. 🙂
Big hugs!
Thanks so much, Cha, and you are TOO kind with your sweet words about my comments! I get it, too, about so many social networks to visit and participate in! Crazy lives we live! I’m so happy what I write makes your day. Your words warm my heart, they really do, so thank you! Sending Big Hugs back and MUAH! 🙂 ♥
Beautiful poem Lauren. Copper is so handsome and blessed to have a loving home. ♥ Renee
Thanks, Renee! I think we’re all blessed and this was fun to write from his perspective. I just wish he could talk and understand us! 🙂 ♥
Love this poem – it made me feel quite emotional by the end. I am sure I am going to feel I know Copper very well by the time I finish his portraits! XO ♥
Thanks so much, Diane, even my hubby got teary-eyed when he read it. Animals are at our mercy and it’s up to us to show them they’re loved! And I’m sure you will feel that way once you’ve finished the portraits! No rush, but do you have a time frame? xoxo ♥
Love this! He looks like he’s saying all those things, especially the “just pet me” part. xo
Thanks, Sheila! Wouldn’t it be great if we could understand our pets? xo
delightful poem , Lauren, and Copper is adorable and very pet-able !
love and hugs xox
Thanks so much, Francina! He’s a really a big baby! 🙂 Love and hugs back to ya! xoxo
