I offered you my love on a silver platter
lined with chocolate dipped strawberries
You tasted, but only to tease
Instead, you stole my happiness
right out of my hands
although my grip was strong
Very brazen, even for you
and it wasn’t yours for the taking
My heart was wrong for breaking,
but I allowed it
I had a choice and chose the weak path
That was yesterday
Today, my wrath is leading the way
and I will not let you ruin my tomorrows

It sounds like you mean business. The photo is making me hungry!!!
Yes, and I think sometimes we have to mean business for our own sanity! 🙂 Sorry I couldn’t share the chocolate and strawberries!
Love it. So good… as ALWAYS. And chocolate… hmmmmm. Just starting a “healthy week”… ahhh it’s so hard without chocolate. 🙂
Big hugs Lauren!
Aww…thanks, Cha, for your very kind words! And, yep, it is hard without chocolate..I’m trying to be healthier, too, and if I’m craving something sweet, I’ll just take a bite! 🙂 Big hugs to you, too, my friend!
Powerful words Lauren! With added strength. Its so easy to allow our happiness to be taken away by someone. Its a very big and difficult subject. As John Powell says in his book, “happiness is an inside job” but its not that easy.
HBL ❤ xx
Thanks so much, Chris, and you are so right in all you said! And I love John Powell’s quote; very true words! Big Hugs! HBL ♥
It sounds like you’re taking a page out of my book of cynical love. You do it very well Lauren.
I don’t think that’s a good thing, though, Kim, because I’d rather there be more happiness for you! But, thank you for your kind complement! Sending hugs!
I have my moments. I would like more but for now I’m thankful for whatever joys I feel. 🙂
“That was yesterday”. Beautiful! No better approach to such a thing.
xo!
Thanks so much, Kathryn! I always like to end with a good attitude! 🙂 xo
Ooooh this reminds me of some of mine – I am seeing such depth in your more recent poetry, Lauren! Keep writing ❤
Well, that is the best complement, Christy, thank you! And you are one of my best mentors, my friend..I’ve been working on depth more and more…hugs!
❤ What a lovely comment back! I worried you might think my tone was in some way talking down to you. I would never do that as your poetry is wonderful, always. I'm glad you saw my intention – and that we are both exploring poetic paths!! Really, I am so happy to know you xx
Wow – that’s a great one! I like the feeling that comes through of taking control and realizing that we’re the only ones who can truly make ourselves happy (especially when chocolate-covered strawberries are in the vicinity)! xo
Thanks so much, Sheila, and yes, it’s up to us, but these strawberries definitely help! 🙂 xo
That’s a very good point Lauren – whatever has gone on in the past, we should definitely never allow anyone to ruin our tomorrows! Very well said indeed! 🙂
Exactly, again, thanks so much, Suzy, for your kind words and all of your visits! xx
Rejections can if we let them take their toll…. So I am pleased you ended this with it not spoiling your tomorrows Lauren,,,
Thanks, Sue, but this is completely fiction, anyway…just another love lost poem that I pulled from my past and I assume many can relate to…Hugs! p.s. I always have to add hope at the end…:)
🙂 glad its all fiction, and Hope is a must! 😀 that I hold so dear …. xxxx
Me, too! 🙂 xoxo
Wrath helps fortify. But must not become obsession and let go of when its early stage usefulness is no longer needed.
Of course, Carl! The anger is handy to get over something without hurting too much, but then we must let go of it in order to be at peace within. Thanks for your comment!

Thanks so much for sharing, Stefan! I really appreciate it! 🙂
This is great Lauren.
Thanks so much, Al!
You’re welcome. I’m sorry I missed this when you first posted it
No worries, we can’t possibly keep up with all posts! I appreciate your kind words, though! 🙂
I love the strength in the words of this poem x
Thanks again, Heidi, and I always try to find hope and strength at the end. 🙂
Nice way you melded the concrete (berries) with the abstract, L.
Thanks so much! This was a fun one to write with the berries. 🙂
Strong advice to all to whom “Sweet Rejection” may apply, taken literally or figuratively…
Thanks again, Lindy! I will catch up in your world soon, too!
