It’s amazing
how a word or phrase
can weigh heavy,
like two hands
pushing you down…
down into
a sea of self doubt
and the only survival
is the strength you seize,
arms straight and strong,
with every muscle
you have,
To Push Back,
find air again –
and breathe.

nice photographic capture of words here – a certain feeling
Thanks so much, John, for your insightful comment! I appreciate it and just caught up in your world! 🙂
Yes, push back!!!
Always! Thanks for stopping by, George! I appreciate your visits! 🙂
My words yesterday were “intensive care” and yes they are doing to me exactly what you described. Hopefully though he will push back!
Oh, I hope so, Tric…I’ll be thinking of you. Hugs!
Love the element of surprise about it being words that can weigh heavy. Had me captured from the second line!
Aww..thank you, Jean, they can do more damage than actions, I believe…
One strategy to attain to balance.
Balance is always a good thing, Ben, but hard to attain, at times…thank you! 🙂
Sometimes I feel the weight has to become so very heavy before we summon the strength to haul ourselves back up again. Its almost as if we don’t realise until that weight is so heavy that we fear we are about to drown and it is then sink or swim time. And then we realise how much we want to swim!
Beautifully said Lauren in simple but profound words ❤ HBL XX
Chris, when you mentioned that the weight has to just about become so heavy that it’s either sink or swim, that’s how I believe, too. I imagine many would feel the same way…thanks so much, my friend! Big Hugs! xoxo
Words can weigh down heavy – as they can lift us up
Push back, yes — or let it slip — or, hit it back to the server
Whatever we do, it says much about us, I reckon
Very true, Eric, and it’s always good to push back…but I do believe words can be much more hurtful than actions. Words affect our mind and hearts, so we tend to analyze…most of the time, we can heal from physical hurts…and yes, whatever our reaction is says a lot about our character..thanks for contributing!
Breathe again. Refreshing!
Thanks very much for your thoughts!
I LOVE it, Lauren.
By the way, that’s why Pilates is very important to me lately : I wanna build MUSCLE to get stronger. lol
I would have loved to learn your poems at school (when I was younger and learned English). It’s such a beautiful language. But I feel lucky because I know many poems from the greatest French writers… 🙂 Hugo and Baudelaire were my favorite.
Thanks so much, Cha! Your energy is awesome; it’s vibrating through my screen and I guess I should do Pilates? 🙂 Thank you for your kind words about my poems, but I don’t know the French poets you mentioned…I’ll have to do some research! I’ve always thought French is probably the most beautiful language… Merci! xx
Ohhh they’re amazing. And thank YOU!!
I hate sports. Running is not for me.. but I started Pilates 3 months ago and I feel so good! It’s sometimes hard but “Sore today, strong tomorrow” 🙂
Words hurt so much more than a fist in the guts; in fact it feels like a real hit, when you just wana cry but choke on it. Coz the people around may think “oh it was nothing, why are you hurting?”
I agree, Eve…as I mentioned above, words affect our hearts and minds, then our emotions take over, which could be dangerous. Usually, we can heal from physical “hurts” and move on…this all depends on the circumstances, of course..thanks so much for your comment! 🙂
Hmmmm… true that. Thanks Lauren
You’re welcome and have a good evening, Eve! 🙂
Lauren! I had shivers reading this poem. Wow. We have had the same sort of day. They can try to push us down but they will be unsuccessful! Thank-you, truly, for everything today.
Thanks, Christy, it’s very strange how we were on the same page, but as long as we push back, all is fine! 🙂 And you’re welcome, for everything! Hugs!
I know the feeling well.
I’m sure many of us do, just be strong and push back! xxx

Thanks for the ping back and mention, Christy! And you’re welcome; that’s what friends are for…
Sometimes indeed, Lauren. Such moment very well captured in your poem.
May you have not too much of these moments.
love and hugs xox
Thanks so much, Francina, and I hope not, too! Love and hugs to you, as well! xoxo
It especially hurts when it’s your family supposedly “helping” you by putting you down. I hope when that happens you are strengthened instead of weakened.
Yes, when family is hurtful, that’s the worst, but luckily, I haven’t experienced that and I hope you don’t either, Sandy…
very, very true! You know how to put the words together to give a clear picture!

Thanks, Seester! Love ya!
With parents on both sides of our duo fighting health battles (Dad S post-stroke, Mom W pre-hip replacement), we are firmly in the middle of one of these push-me-pull-you times. But then your poems are *always* timely, my dear Lauren!
xo
Oh, Kathryn, I’m so sorry to hear this and will keep you and your parents in my thoughts and prayers…I love for my poems to be timely, but more in a positive way! 🙂 Sending hugs!
Wow, I can really relate to this one, Lauren, and you said it beautifully … thank you. Sending love and hugs your way! xoxox
so true and there are so many ways of interpreting that word. something to ponder.
hope you have a wonderful weekend Lauren. 🙂
Thanks so much, Geraldine and I wish you the same! 🙂
For me this captures the essence of writing … I always hope it will come lightly and easily, but it is certainly the weight of the words, of what I want to express, that makes me push back and somehow bear them up and hopefully give them wings. Beautiful. XO ♥
Oh, Diane, your perspective is lovely and very different from my purpose of writing this, but also a very positive one…thanks for sharing, my friend. You gave proof that we all perceive things in different ways and there is always a bright side. 🙂 Much love and many hugs to you! ♥
It’s just how it affected me, although I had a feeling it was not what you had in mind when you wrote it. So, you see how words, once written, once shared, have a life of their own. XO
Well put, sound advice. Thank for the re-follow. Sometimes WordPress can be quite frustrating, I do agree…
