I let you claim my dormant heart
with light concealed behind the dark
I missed deception in your eyes
transparency didn’t show your lies
A connection was felt, deep, deep inside
how could my emotions act so unwise
I lie here, cold, with rolling tears
a naked soul, wrapped in fears
Stripped of my being, I was so blind
to not have seen the flashing signs
Let it rain, let it thunder and pour
now torn in two, my mind’s at war
Burning embers dying, all because of you
precious time wasted, crying like a fool

  1. Lauren, thank you for the postscript! You have me almost in tears and clenching my gut with your lovelorn poem. This one is very, very good for its type. Very polished and “finished”. I think it is very helpful to revisit old sorrows just to show us how far we have come since then!

      1. Hi Lauren–I had hoped that, by posting alternating “happy”/spiritual poem with the achy-breaky-heart ones, folks wouldn’t worry about me. Maybe I should put a big “happy camper” sticker at the top of my blog! I describe my life as pretty much being a “party” every day, these days–but I’m afraid if I put that up, I’d send the completely wrong message (not “that” kind of party!). Well, anyway–it’s fun–I love my new friends, like your sweet self!

  7. So wise and kind of you to clarify what’s fact and what’s fiction–but I confess I didn’t for a moment worry that this piece was anything worse in your case than “ancient history,” having read and felt what you say about your love today! 🙂

    Still, this is indeed a fitting way to tell that age-old tale of woe, and said with such passion and sympathy that even the fortunate among us can feel the vicarious twinge.

    1. Well, honestly, your perspective is more uplifting than mine! That line actually was a metaphor to more tears, tying in with “crying like a fool” however, that’s what is wonderful about poetry, there can be many interpretations…anyway, I hope that doesn’t bring you down! 🙂
