I let you claim my dormant heart
with light concealed behind the dark
I missed deception in your eyes
transparency didn’t show your lies
A connection was felt, deep, deep inside
how could my emotions act so unwise
I lie here, cold, with rolling tears
a naked soul, wrapped in fears
Stripped of my being, I was so blind
to not have seen the flashing signs
Let it rain, let it thunder and pour
now torn in two, my mind’s at war
Burning embers dying, all because of you
precious time wasted, crying like a fool

Lauren, thank you for the postscript! You have me almost in tears and clenching my gut with your lovelorn poem. This one is very, very good for its type. Very polished and “finished”. I think it is very helpful to revisit old sorrows just to show us how far we have come since then!
Thanks, Rose, and I’ve learned to add the postscript when posting! I’m honored to “hear” you say it’s finished and polished and it is fulfilling to see how far we’ve come, isn’t it? Thanks again! 🙂
A beautiful reprise, Lauren. Delicate and heart wrenching. 🙂
Thank you, Eve, with your amazing talent, your comment means a great deal to me! 🙂
Beautifully written, Lauren! You are always so skilled at conveying emotion. And the imagery is fantastic: “burning embers dying, all because of you.” Love it. 🙂
Thanks so much, Tim, I really appreciate your kind words! 🙂
Beautiful! Thanks for sharing 🙂
Thanks so much, Nelvin! 🙂
Surely I have been there, horrid pain. I’m so grateful and thrilled for you that you found “Real” love–blessings to you and your husband. (I see that you’ve elected to write a clarifying note for those of us prone to worry about our blog family members–it’s a lovely phenomenon I had certainly not expected: people we’ll likely never meet in person, caring about our hearts.) love to you, Caddo
Thank you so much, Caddo! And believe me, I’m very grateful to have fellow bloggers worry and I know how you feel, after reading others poems. It’s easy to wonder and worry, so I thank you for your friendship and appreciate your feelings! xx
Hi Lauren–I had hoped that, by posting alternating “happy”/spiritual poem with the achy-breaky-heart ones, folks wouldn’t worry about me. Maybe I should put a big “happy camper” sticker at the top of my blog! I describe my life as pretty much being a “party” every day, these days–but I’m afraid if I put that up, I’d send the completely wrong message (not “that” kind of party!). Well, anyway–it’s fun–I love my new friends, like your sweet self!
My heart felt every ping..Excellent work!
Hugs, Deb xx
Thanks so much, Deb! Hugs to you, too! xx
So wise and kind of you to clarify what’s fact and what’s fiction–but I confess I didn’t for a moment worry that this piece was anything worse in your case than “ancient history,” having read and felt what you say about your love today! 🙂
Still, this is indeed a fitting way to tell that age-old tale of woe, and said with such passion and sympathy that even the fortunate among us can feel the vicarious twinge.
I had learned my lesson, but I’m glad you already knew…Kathryn, your comment is so graceful; thank you so much! I truly appreciate your kind complement and feedback~ xx
hey lauren, sorry i havnt been around much. lovely post. and how many awards have u won???? 😀 my god i see a new award everyday. but in all honesty u deserve em all. cheers to you and your blog 🙂
Hi Arjun,
I know you took a break, but I’m glad you’re back, too! Thanks for your kind words and regarding the awards, there have been a few! 🙂 I’m very grateful for them and also, to pay them forward…Cheers to you, too, and I’ll be over your way soon. Still playing catch up and I’m not winning! 🙂
Fictional or not, this conveys pure emotion! Well done.
Thanks so much, David! I appreciate your kind feedback!
I only write sad, bleak poetry. I’m one dimensional. Just a dot.
I think that’s okay, Russell…we write what we feel and experience and sometimes, the saddest circumstances create the best poetry (sadly to say). Thanks for your visit and I’ll be over your way soon! 🙂
Wonderful depiction of a true intense feeling! Lauren you rock!
Awww…thanks, MissDawn! Your kind, energetic comment is greatly appreciated! 🙂
Wonderful poem! I am a new follower… as of right now!
christyb
Thanks very much, Christyb, and I’m following you, too! I look forward to perusing around your way soon!
Beautiful poem, so love it! 🙂
Thanks so much, PJ! xx
great stuff…loved how the fiction poem relates with experiences…happens most of the time
Thank you, Eva, and you’re right, sadly, it does relate to reality…
beautiful poem..how sad is it that one has to go through indifference and lies… love wouldnt be famous if it was just another happy journey i guess…
Thanks, Soma, and yes, it is sad that we have to experience some tough times to find the right “one!” 🙂
Poignant and beautiful, glad it is the muse all the same.
Well wishes, poet
Jemmy
Thanks so much, Jemmy! I appreciate your well wishes! 🙂
Lauren
Hi lauren ——

You are so gifted !
my Favourite line –
“How could my emotions act so unwise?”
I think that’s where all the Truth is – in the emotions ———-
Lovely Lovely Lovely

Cat
Thanks so much, Cat, isn’t that true? Sometimes, it’s hard to control our emotions, esp. when we’re angry or sad..Your kind words truly make my day! Thank you again!

Great post! I have a new page because of personal reasons. Please feel free to follow me again at my new url http://tigersgroves.wordpress.com I’m hoping to see you on my list soon. Thanks!
Thanks, Heather! I tried your new url but it read that it doesn’t exist…let me know. I’ll definitely follow you again! 🙂
Feels like pain turned to righteous strength…
Beautiful…
“I say, let it rain, let it thunder and pour”
Thank you~!
Well, honestly, your perspective is more uplifting than mine! That line actually was a metaphor to more tears, tying in with “crying like a fool” however, that’s what is wonderful about poetry, there can be many interpretations…anyway, I hope that doesn’t bring you down! 🙂
I do have another poem I wrote, also a fiction piece, but thinking about women in abusive relationships. It’s more of a story, with hope at the end. I couldn’t end it without hope, so here is the link if you’re interested..if not, that’s fine, too. http://lscotthoughts.com/2011/12/02/invisible-love/
Thanks again, for your kind words and for listening to my long reply~ 🙂
Wonderfully evocative – pulled me right in. Really great work.
Thank you so much! 🙂
even though this doesnt reflect your current relationship, you wrote it so well that it seems like it is. another really great, emotional piece, lauren!!
Thanks, Elle, I always appreciate your feedback! 🙂
Gripping and stark, but beautiful, as I have come to expect from you, my talented friend. Your words are ever touching and vivid. Lovely work again!
Thanks so much for your continued encouragement, VW!
Yes a very good poem my friend,
and those feelings, whether fresh
in mind, or of a time gone by…
You have certainly added a fine
addition to your poetic edge 🙂
Have a wonderful Thursday 🙂
Androgoth Xx
Thanks so much, Androgoth! I appreciate your kind comment! Hope you have a wonderful Wednesday! 🙂
Oh Lauren, I felt this. It is good to revisit so we do appreciate what we have now. 🙂 Thank you for this.
Thanks, Maiya, and you’re so right! I always appreciate your kind words! xx
Liked it! Glad to see you put that disclaimer in there as well 😉
This line was so visual, strong and beautiful to me: “I say, let it rain, let it thunder and pour”
Thanks, PG, since I’ve been sick, it’s catch up time! I’m glad you liked this one! 🙂
I feel like a kite
Tossed by the winds
Of love but not quite
Up then down
Nose dive to ground
Setting myself free
Should be so easy
But I just want you
To love me
Why do guys lie? Why do they pretend? It’s so cruel.
Andrea
Oh, Andrea, your words are beautiful and I wish the answers were easy, but that’s just life. It’s all about experiences, persevering and enduring…Thanks for sharing your talent, too! 🙂
What a stunning reprise ! Fictional or non-fictional is irrelevant — you have expressed from your heart. Keep penning. Cheers.
Thanks so much! I appreciate your visit and I’m playing catch up from being sick, so I apologize for the delayed response! I’m grateful for your encouragement, as well! 🙂
What a wonderful, heartfelt poem Lauren! I was glad to read the end note though! We tend to write from our hearts and life experiences! Sorry I haven’t been popping by your blog lately, haven’t had time to blog lately, due to work! Weekend tomorrow, hoping to do something worthy of blogging about! 🙂
Thanks, Sharon, and I completely understand the “time” restraint. Being sick for a week didn’t help with blogging! I hope you have a wonderful day! xx
With emotional punch, but no aggression. Rolls off the tongue. Well managed.
Thanks so much, Ben, I appreciate your feedback and kind words~
Lovely…
Thank you so much!
I loved this poem. Deep and thoughtful. Beautifully written! 🙂
Thank you, Nandini, and thanks so much for following me!
